Srinagar, Sep 11 (KNO): The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) from Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, Aga Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday expressed concern over the failure to fulfill promises made to the people, especially regarding empowerment, accountability and the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood. Speaking to the media persons, Ruhullah, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the empowerment that people voted for is not happening. “Accountability is missing and there is a growing sense of betrayal among the people,” he said, adding, "The people feel betrayed." The MP said his party - the National Conference (NC) - has mentioned in its manifesto that it will revoke the Public Safety Act (PSA) when statehood is restored. “That’s why I'm stressing for the fight over statehood restoration so that things will be done as promised. But, we have forgotten the struggle as we are not fighting it,” he said. Mehdi said people have voted to get these rights back and make constitutional changes. "The government should do whatever it has promised. If they don’t, then it is a betrayal with the people,” he added—(KNO)
